Vagina Monologues
Hey all ya'll, I just got an invitation to donate something for an art auction for Norfolk YWCA production of the Vagina Monologues...permission to offer the FIRST AND ORIGINAL TREASURE BOX?! My intention would include PR around the gift.
Let me know!
Love to you all in the form of
a buzzing honey bee
Connie
As a girl of 13 I allowed a bee to sting me so I'd know what it felt like. It hurt. Funny, I've never had the notion to try this with rattlesnakes. ch

I really love this idea - not having a bee sting me ;-), but donating the treasure box for the art auction. What timeframe does that put us in for our Sacred Crow's travels? Is the auction in advance of the production of the Vagina Monologues or in conjunction with it?
Hugabuzzes!

V day is Feb. 14 so I think there would be time. I have not confirmed that this is in fact the date, but I know that the producers would most likely be currently planning ahead. Is that like being in two places at one time? Shapeshifting, anyone?
hey there, I see I didn't answer the question. the art auction is in conjunction...a Sat. night performance.
I am all for it...!!
I'm wondering if I have understood this post, so hang with me here...
The box is set to go to 13 people (I think that is the number that was decided). Let's say, for argument's sake, each person has the box for a week. Factoring in mailing time and the holidays - is it reasonable to have this back to Connie by the end of January to prepare it for an auction in mid February?
Hi Grace, you make a very good point and it's refreshing to have one amongst us that, unlike me, thinks things through a bit?! It would be a tight schedule. But if we tried to keep the box for four days instead of a week...it just might work. But I have no interest in adding time pressure or stress to this endeavor, so let's see where we're at once the box is in your hands. Have you thought about who you will send it to??

Okay, I'm here... been crazy busy stitching...almost stitched myself to a proj. AND nope, I'm not kidding. I'm totally for ANYTHING the group is for since it is all in good cause. Plus, I've seen the VM and think it is the funniest thing since sewing my fingernail to a fab quilt.
I'm happy to hear Monica, that you have extricated yourself from the project successfully! Good to hear from you. I'll let you know when I know something about the VM to benefit my local YWCA. If it's a silent auction, I'm not sure I'd know what amount to put on it and would need a consensus on that. But again, I should chill and live in the moment, right!!?
Hi Connie... I admit I am one that tries to think ahead. I've also been involved in 2 different box exchanges that go from person to person within a group and both bombed - big, but I remain positive that it can work.
I'm a little 'fuzzy' on how I pick a person to join. Is there any criteria at all or is it just merely a woman that I think would like to participate?
I'd appreciate thoughts on that. Once I have a better understanding of the expectations I will be better able to make a determination of who is next on the list.
Thanks... Grace
P.S. If you're interested, I'm having a little giveaway on my blog (GraceBeading), just because it's a good time to be thankful!

This has been an Etsy adventure. The connection I've made with Gris and Paige as spiritual women and wildly creative HUMANS is what inspired me to share my treasure with them. Is there someone you've met on Etsy that just blows your socks off with their work or spirit? If no one comes to mind, let me know and we'll go from there.
Be well, I'm very glad you are involved!

Hello Grace, my experience of these type of projects specially during this time of the year is as follows.
People join in because they like to participate, but fall out because they are not commited to the group and lack the vision to follow through, being busy is a given, we are all very busy, but the intention to create something of beauty and magic should give us enough energy to carry it to the end. I imagine you have an couple of friends who you know and trust to participate fully. If they are too busy or not interested it should be easy for any of us to give other names from our groups or as Connie sugested, from Etsy itself. That is my two cents.
Committment... makes me think of a great quote I read once:
"There's a difference between interest and commitment.
When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstance permit.
When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results."

I don't know many folks on Etsy, I have purchased from several sellers, but do not have many personal relationships formed from my experiences there.
I do have someone in mind to invite to participate though. I didn't originally 'meet' her on Etsy, but I know she has a shop there. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for the input.
The Vagina Monologues are fantastic and very liberating given the response to "guilt" or for that matter embarrassment that we grew up with...I am delighted to know our collection of bits of art will help the YWCA too.
Along the way I am going to be sending some "yoni" art to Grace to add to the treasure box...I used to do this type of work for eBay usin g polymer clay.
That is a great quote Grace!
It reminded me of this other:
"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back-- Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now."
~Goethe
Awesome quotes...not that I have a weakness for quotations or anything... ;-)
The VM are incredibly funny, thought-provoking and sombering. I've gone twice - once with my mom-the-fierce-feminist and once with my husband. Next time I'm taking my 14 yr old daughter...and maybe the time after that I'll be IN the VM. That is, IF I can memorize my lines.
